Vegans should be careful of how much of the syrup they consume, though. It is a high-calorie product that lacks nutritional value. In fact, back in 2012, the FDA served a warning letter on The Hershey’s Company. This was for labeling the chocolate syrup and the sugar-free variety with phrases such as “+Calcium” and “Vitamin and Mineral Fortification”. The FDA stated that the vitamins and mineral content has to reach at least 10% of the daily intake to use those labels. They have since been removed. So if you’re thinking of ditching your vitamins for a squirt of chocolate syrup, you might have to think again.

In 2015, the company aimed to reduce the weight of their packaging by 25 million pounds by 2025. However, they achieved that goal by 2020. They also aim to have 100% of their plastic packaging be either recyclable reusable or compostable by 2030.
